Zeta Phi holds a long and distinguished tradition of academic excellence, and this is largely a product of our scholarship program. Some of the instruments we employ in attempting to help our pledges achieve academic success include mandatory study hours, a test file system that is unparalleled on campus and constantly updated, and active mentor program that is designed to foster academic acclamation for pledges, and Yeckel Library. Yeckel Library, which was completed in 1993, includes two study rooms and a computer lab that holds six Windows based computers, four of which are new Dell Dimension E510, equipped with flat screen monitors. Also in the computer lab is a laser printer, a photocopy machine, and a scanner. The computers are maintained to ensure that they are up to date on hardware and software alike. All computers are capable of audio and video production, as well as having broadband access to the Internet. Other study tools that are available at Beta are wireless Internet throughout the main house and library, as well as an issued desk for each entering freshmen. Also, the freshmen class will have its own Scholarship Chairman who is with the freshmen every evening to aid them with their studies. With the countless resources that Beta provides, academic success becomes second nature for every member.

Ties to Beta Theta Pi don’t end at graduation. This is evidence by the continued- and substantial- donations made by our alumni. This includes the $100,000 contribution by Mrs. Jane Yeckel, widow of the late Phillip J. Yeckel ’33, for the library dedicated in his name. Yeckel Library truly is without rival anywhere in the Greek system in terms of supporting academic achievement.

The University of Missouri Intramural Program provides the opportunity for students to compete in over twenty organized sports throughout the three seasons of play. The highest point values are given to the most popular sports, such as flag football, soccer, basketball, softball, and volleyball. Due to the size of the Greek community, intramurals are divided into two divisions based on size of house and talent level, and Beta has always been a division one house. Besides the Greek league competitions, Beta also always competes in the Games portion of the Greek Week contest, and similar results routinely achieved. In addition, The Zeta Phi Chapter of Beta Theta Pi has won the Fraternity Intramural Championships thirty-one times in the past thirty-nine years, never finishing below third place. It should be noted that this success on the playing field has always been combined with a strong desire to maintain sportsmanship and respect before, during, and after the game.

Beta’s domination of the intramural competitions dates back to the 1930s, when Beta first started winning on a regular basis. The fraternity housed the intramural trophy for over half the decade and has continued to succeed ever since. Such a feat is a credit to the men of Beta Theta Pi and their drive to be the best in every area in which they compete. The Beta’s take great pride in remaining atop the intramural ranking, but it is the effort these records represent that truly captures the Beta Spirit.

This success on the playing field is also a direct result of the time and effort put into each and every competition. Our house elects and annual Intramurals Chair who is the overall manager of the athletics, but each individual sport has a sub-captain, which is a person who is especially skilled in that sport and also a leader. These routine practices and the implementation of a sub-captain allow the members of Beta Theta Pi to spend quality time together competing, while at the same time preparing for the actual competition.
