Each year the Zeta Phi Chapter of Beta Theta Pi hosts its annual philanthropy Seven-on-Seven. Seven-on-Seven is a week-long event, consisting of a seven-on-seven water volleyball tournament, a service project at the MS150 Bicycle Race, and fundraising through various methods, such as t-shirt sales. Each year, different sororities choose to participate, competing for an overall victory through winning the water volleyball tournament, performing the most quality serenade, and raising the most money.
The money raised during the philanthropy benefits Multiple Sclerosis research at the University of Missouri Department of Neurology. Beta Theta Pi's philanthropy used to benefit the American Cancer Institute, but was changed after Brian Phillips, one of our chapter members, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. At the time, Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, a leader in MS research and our previous beneficiary, was no longer accepting new patients because of an already staggering number of people in need. However, because of Beta's commitment to raising funds for their program, the hospital agreed to admit Phillips. Our chapter recently decided to give our donations to the University of Missouri Hospital's Multiple Sclerosis Fund because they are a more localized beneficiary who does not receive as many monetary donations as Barnes-Jewish.

Seven-on-Seven generally raises over $10,000 each year, and the Multiple Sclerosis Fund of the MU Department of Neurology is the sole beneficiary. We are proud not only to be of assistance in battling what is truly a debilitating disease, but also to help one of our own brothers in the process. This is the essence of the brotherhood that is built and perpetuated within the Zeta Phi Chapter of Beta Theta Pi.
